Wilmington Attorney Charged with State Tax Offenses

RALEIGH – A Wilmington Attorney was arrested Tuesday on tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Clay Allen Collier, 56, of 1033 Robert E. Lee Dr., Wilmington, was charged on September 20, 2016 with five counts of Willful Failure to File Return, Supply Information, or Pay Tax.
Arrest warrants allege that Collier was required to file North Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns for tax years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014, but willfully failed to file the returns. Collier is an attorney at the law firm of Crossley, McIntosh, Collier, Hanley & Edes, PLLC, located in Wilmington.
Collier appeared before a Wake County magistrate and was placed under a $10,000 secured bond. A first appearance is scheduled for October 20, 2016 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.
The charges against Collier resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
