Carteret County Businessman Charged with State Tax Offenses

RALEIGH – A Carteret County businessman was arrested Friday on tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Raymond Lawrence, Jr., 61, of 2340 Shore Drive, Morehead City, was charged on December 2, 2016 with four counts of Willful Failure to File Return, Supply Information, or Pay Tax.
Arrest warrants allege that Lawrence was required to file North Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns for the tax years 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, but willfully failed to file the returns. Lawrence is self-employed and is the owner of 20th Street Grocery and Grill, located in Morehead City.
Lawrence appeared before a Wake County magistrate and was placed under a $10,000 secured bond. A first appearance is scheduled for January 11, 2017 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.
The charges against Lawrence resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
