Caldwell County Businessman Guilty of State Tax Charges
RALEIGH -- A Caldwell County resident was found guilty recently of tax charges filed by the
North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Samuel L. Townsend, 31, of 3193 Zacks Fork Road, Lenoir, was found guilty March 6, 2003 of
two counts of failure to file and pay state withholding taxes. Townsend is the sole proprietor
of S&T Masonry.
Judge Sherri Elliott issued Townsend a 120-day suspended sentence and placed him on supervised
probation for three years. Townsend was also ordered to pay a $500 fee and court costs for
each count and to perform 72 hours of community service within 90 days.
The charges against Townsend are the result of efforts by the Department of Revenue Hickory
