Greensboro Businessman Charged in State Tax Case
September 28, 2016
RALEIGH – A Greensboro businessman was arrested Wednesday on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
John Bradley Gaither, 52, of 121 Barracks Rd., Hillsborough was charged on September 28, 2016 with five counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses.
Arrest warrants allege that John Bradley Gaither, General Manager of Southeastern Exterminating Co., Inc., knowingly filed fraudulent North Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns for tax years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, claiming credit for North Carolina Withholding Tax in the total amount of $9,351.00, when in fact the defendant knew that the withholding tax had not been paid to the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Gaither appeared before a Wake County magistrate and was placed under a $50,000.00 bond. A first appearance is scheduled for September 29, 2016 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.
Similar charges were filed last week by the Department against the Business Manager of Southeastern Exterminating Co., Ann Gaither Teague. The business has locations in Charlotte and Greensboro. The charges against John B. Gaither resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
